UNAIR NEWS – National Chiao Tung University (NCTU) Taiwan has come to establish collaboration on institutional development with Universitas Airlangga. The NCTU delegation visited UNAIR to explore the possibility of establishing such collaboration on Monday, November 13. The NCTU delegation was received at the Main Assembly Room of UNAIR Management Building.
Nine NCTU delegates led by Prof. Dr. Chih-Wei Luo, Associate Vice President for International Affairs, were welcomed by Vice Rector III UNAIR, Prof. Mochammad Amin Alamsjah, Ir., M.Si., Ph.D., who was accompanied by Margaretha, S.Psi., PGDip.Psych., M.Sc., Head of Global Network and Communication Division, Airlangga Global Engagement (AGE) UNAIR .
The other eight members of the NCTU delegation were Prof. Dr. Jih Peng Leu (Director OIA College of Engineering), Prof. Li-Hsing Yen (Director EECS International Graduate Program), Prof. Wu-Ching Chou (Dept. Of Electrophysics), Prof. Dr. Chih-Ping Lin (Chair, Dept. Of Civil Engineering), Prof. Guey-Lin Lin (Institue of Physics), Prof. Cheng Sheng Huang (Dept. Of Mechanical Engineering), Ms. Janet Chen (Project Manager Office of International Affairs/OIA) and Mr. Fikri Ismail (Indonesian student who studies in Global MBA Program NCTU).
According to Prof. Chih-Wei Luo, NCTU previously had a Memorandum of Agreement / MoA with Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) UNAIR. With this visit, NCTU, the third Top university in Taiwan, wanted to expand collaboration.
“We want to develop the collaboration so it can bring benefits for both NCTU Taiwan and UNAIR,” Prof. Chih-Wei Luo stated.
In addition to knowing more programs of UNAIR, NCTU delegates also offered courses that can be utilized by prospective students and postgraduate from Indonesia. Moreover, Prof. Wei Luo also said that the Taiwanese government and NCTU also provide scholarships to study in the country.
NCTU wanted to start the collaboration by conducting student exchange program. NCTU is also considering to send its students to UNAIR for AMERTA (Academic Mobility for Undergraduate Student) program and short courses at UNAIR.
“Apparently they are interested in our AMERTA program, UNAIR has a program that provides opportunities for foreign students to continue their studies at UNAIR. In addition to the short courses, there is also further studies from undergraduate program to doctoral program with various scholarships, “added Margaretha when introducing of the program to NCTU.
In fact, the lecturer of UNAIR Faculty of Psychology stated that NCTU also wants to explore the possibility for visiting professor program . It also extended collaborative research implemented with FST. But for this, NCTU is still waiting whether there is a mobility of Indonesian students to Taiwan.
NCTU delegates who came to UNAIR were technology experts, while UNAIR only has engineering program from medical engineering at FST. There were ideas to collaborate in other field of health. Therefore after visiting UNAIR, the NCTU delegation also visited Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) Surabaya. (*)
